Fleetwood Town are ahead of Man City and Tottenham in new average attendance statistics

Dwindling attendance figures at Premier League matches have generated a few headlines lately.

Several stadium expansions have taken place across the land in the last year, with more currently under way or soon to start. But as clubs fail to fill their grounds to capacity, it’s prompted some to question if some of these stadiums are too big for the clubs that call them home.

Thanks to research from myvouchercodes.co.uk, we can now get an idea of which clubs boast the best average attendance figures in relation to their stadium’s capacity.

Having used average attendance figures throughout the season so far, the research looks at the league average stadium fill percentage, and throws up some surprising statistics.

Premier League

England’s top flight boasts an average of 95.8%, which, despite recent news, appears incredibly healthy.

West Ham have filled 99.8% of seats on average – the highest in the country and possibly vindication for their move to the higher-capacity Olympic Stadium in summer.

Despite not always playing the most attractive of football at Old Trafford this season, Manchester United sit in third place with a percentage of 99.4%, behind relegation threatened Norwich (99.7%).

The league’s top and bottom three teams are shown below (all figures accurate as of the morning of March 8).

In the second tier of English football, Bristol City lead the way with an incredible 91% stadium fill – a staggering 26% higher than the league average (65.6%)

Leading the way in League One are Fleetwood Town, who have managed an average stadium fill of 98.76% so far this season. Percentage-wise, that puts them ahead of Premier League clubs Manchester City (98.73%) and Tottenham Hotspur (98.6%), though their 5,094 total capacity is noticeably smaller.
