Reyna couldn’t hide his emotion after another injury setback
Gio Reyna left the field in tears after suffering another injury setback in Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga game with VfB Stuttgart on Friday evening.
With only a minute played of the game in Baden-Württemberg, Reyna was seen clutching his hamstring after pulling up during a short sprint. He was soon replaced by Julian Brandt.
The 19-year-old, the son of former United States internationals Claudio Reyna and Danielle Egan, was visibly upset as he made his way off the pitch.
Reyna’s season has been blighted by injury
The US international has struggled with injury throughout the season, beginning with a hamstring problem he picked up while with his national side last September.
After a five-month layoff, Reyna aggravated the problem on his return in February, sidelining him for a further two weeks in the process.

The teenager was able to return to help his country seal their place at the Qatar World Cup last month, and had hoped to help Dortmund’s push to close down Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga.
Dortmund face difficult task to catch Bayern
Dortmund lost to RB Leipzig last weekend, allowing Bayern to open up a nine-point lead at the top with victory at Freiburg.
For a time it seemed Bayern may have the points taken off them having momentarily fielded 12 players in the game after Freiburg lodged an official complaint.
However, it was confirmed later in the week that the result would stand, with the German FA saying that the match officials were to blame for the mix-up, not Bayern.
Despite the early departure of Reyna, Dortmund were able to beat Stuttgart 2-0, with Brandt scoring a goal in each half.
Dortmund are now six points behind Bayern, who have a game in hand. The two sides meet in Munich later this month.
