The last few years have been frustrating times for Manchester United fans.
After decades of trophy-laden success under Sir Alex Ferguson they’ve had to suffer then drudgery of relative underachievement under the hapless David Moyes and then dogmatic Louis van Gaal.
Then, this summer, everything looked to finally be getting back on track. José Mourinho took the helm, they signed serial winner Zlatan Ibrahimovic and then splashed a world record fee on Paul Pogba.
Surely, this was the dawn of a new golden era at the Theatre of Dreams.
Okay, United’s season didn’t get off to the best of starts and they still find themselves outside the top four. But lately Mourinho has been doing what he does best – making his team hard to beat. After snatching a late equaliser at Stoke, United are on a 17-match undefeated run.
Yesterday’s laboured draw may not have been the stuff of the Class of 92 vintage. But it’s progress nonetheless. And you’d expect most United fans to be cautiously positive about recent developments at Old Trafford considering their recent past.
Well, not all United fans it seems. José’s conservative approach has got some pining for the fluency and flare that are the trademarks of Tony Pulis’s football approach.
As one fan articulated in a particularly nonsensical rant on BBC Radio 5 Live. The only thing more entertaining than this fan’s complete perspective bypass is Robbie Savage’s reaction. Enjoy:
Devin, an #MUFC fan "Tony Pulis should replace Mourinho at Old Trafford" 😂
A good replacement for the Special One? pic.twitter.com/nI2xoTobpf
