Love him or loathe him, Roy Keane is TV gold
All the build-up, all the hype, and here we are, a matter of hours after the first Manchester derby finished in a dull goalless draw, telling you about Roy Keane mercilessly taking the piss out of Gary Neville.
The former United teammates were both on duty for Sky Sports during the game at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, and provided what was arguably the highlight of the entire broadcast when discussing United’s squad rotation after the full-time whistle.
Keane reflected on his time as a United player and how, as a key member of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, he resented having to be rested for games.
“When you’re at a big club, the players pick the team,” Keane said. “You train all week and the manager eventually says, ‘well, I have to play him.’ That was my mindset when I was a player when I was at the club.
“Squad rotation is great, but don’t be rotating me, I’ve got to play in the team. Chop and change some other lads – Gary and one or two others, but leave me to it…”
It was at this point, Neville took the bait.
“I was a stalwart at right-back, I’ll have you know,” he replied, teeing Keane up perfectly.
“You were the only right-back at the club,” he said. “We were stick with you.”

The goalless draw at Old Trafford means City remain a point behind United in the Premier League table, five off the top.
