“They were never gonna call me, that was never gonna happen.”
Roy Keane has responded to suggestions that he should have been appointed Manchester United’s interim manager until the end of the season following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian was dismissed following the Red Devils’ 4-1 loss at Watford, with Michael Carrick named as caretaker manager.
United announced that while the club searched for a permanent manager, they would look to appoint an interim boss until the end of the current campaign.
It has since been confirmed that former RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick has agreed a deal to become interim manager, however, many people had suggested that Keane could have been a short-term option at Old Trafford.
Despite this, the former United midfielder has dismissed the idea, stating that the club were ‘never going to call him’, adding that he would have ‘no problem’ taking control of a dressing room.
🗣 "They were never going to call me. People tend to forget I have managed before and I done okay in the Premier League with Sunderland."
