Sometimes you try your best, but things just don’t work out.
For most of us, falling just short at work means you might get a disappointing glance from your boss, but when you’re an MMA fighter, it’s something else entirely.
While it took at least one punch for Conor McGregor to floor Jose Aldo at UFC 194, Lloyd Marshbanks took himself down just eight seconds into his World Fighting Championship Akhmat with Magomed Ankalayev for his 11th defeat in a row.
Marshbanks – who has not recorded a win since 2009 – now has a professional record of 19-19, and came into the fight having lost all of his previous ten fights by either knockout or submission.
But he decided to combine the two on Saturday night as he officially suffered a TKO after a “submission to punches”.
When you’ve lost ten professional fights on the bounce, you might feel like it’s time to pack it in. After this showing, we wouldn’t blame Marshbanks for throwing in the towel on his career.
