Ryan Giggs has some technical advice for Marcus Rashford

Ryan Giggs has previously spoken of his desire to see Marcus Rashford utilised in a more central position.

But, due in no small part to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s beastly form up front for Manchester United, Rashford has had to be content playing in the wider areas when opportunities have presented themselves for his club.

More often than not, Rashford finds himself on the left flank for United, a position which manager Jose Mourinho views as perfect for the youngster as he can use his breakneck pace to run at full backs and do his best to turn them inside out en route to the penalty area.

And as exciting as it is to watch Rashford engage in foot-races with opposition players, he does lose the ball more frequently than his manager would ideally like.

Fortunately for the 19-year-old, a man who knows a thing or two about Old Trafford’s left wing has some advice for him.

Giggs has offered his take on how Rashford can mix up his game so that he can end his goal drought, having failed to score a Premier League goal in six months.

“He’s a threat, he’s a talent,” Giggs said, in quotes appearing in Manchester Evening News.

“The one thing I would say just at the moment, because he’s not scoring, he just needs to mix his game up a little bit.

“More one-twos, more just laying it off, because at the moment he’s getting the ball and he’s taking players on – it’s working – but you can’t do that every time.

“Sometimes you’ve just got to keep the defender guessing. Just control, pass, lay it off and then the next time you run at him.

“It’s constantly cat and mouse and keep the defender guessing because he has got everything. He can run in behind, with and without the ball.”
