The alleged incident occurred last weekend, hours after Porteous had played in Hibs’ win over Ross County
Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident of alleged assault.
It was reported earlier in the week that Police Scotland were investigating claims the 22-year-old threw an object at a woman, which left her requiring hospital treatment during the early hours of last Sunday morning.
The alleged incident took place a matter of hours after Porteous played for Hibs in their 2-0 victory over Ross County in a Scottish Premiership game at Easter Road.
“A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault,” a statement from Police Scotland said.
“Around 2.05am on Sunday, 20 February, 2022, police received a report of a woman being injured in the Woodburn Road area of Dalkeith.
“The 22-year-old man is subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal. He has been released on an undertaking and will appear at a later date.”
Porteous’ manager, Shaun Maloney, said on Thursday that he expected Porteous to be available for his side’s clash with Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
“He’ll be available,” he told Sky Sports. “I’ve had a lot of conversations with Ryan in the last couple of days.
“It is difficult for me to say too much. He’s aware of the responsibilities he has and how he has to behave on and off the pitch.”
