England manager Sam Allardyce has reportedly left his post after just one game.
The Telegraph, whose investigation prompted emergency meetings between the former Sunderland boss and the Football Association, report that Allardyce is no longer in charge of the national team.
John Cross of the Mirror had earlier reported that Allardyce had offered to resign following allegations of impropriety relating to an investigation dating back several months.
According to various sources, Allardyce had showdown talks with FA bosses on Tuesday after he was allegedly caught on camera telling undercover reporters that bypassing FA rules on third-party ownership was “not a problem”.
He was summoned to Wembley after the FA launched an investigation of its own into the allegations, and is expected to be relieved of his duties – whether in the form of a resignation or sacking, or by mutual consent – having overseen just one international match.
The Mirror report that Gareth Southgate – current coach of England’s under-21 side, will take charge of the senior squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.
