Sergio Agüero has revealed that he cannot play football without struggling to breath and wonders if he will ever be able to sprint again.

The former Manchester City striker was forced to retire last year due to ongoing heart problems, which were detected after he was substituted with chest pains in his last Barcelona match on October 30 against Alaves.

After undergoing cardiological tests, the club confirmed the cause was a heart arrhythmia.

Speaking about his general health on a Twitch stream, the 33-year-old admitted that he is unable to sprint without running out of breath, adding that he believes his heart ‘doesn’t work properly’.

He said: “If I try to play football now, I run out of breath. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever be able to sprint again.

“I just feel like my heart doesn’t work properly.”

Aguero scored 260 goals in 390 games for City, becoming their all-time leading scorer and winning five Premier League crowns, one FA Cup and six League Cups.

After leaving City in the summer to join Catalan giants Barcelona, he struggled with health and injury troubles. As a result of this, the forward made just five competitive appearances for the five-time Champions League winners.

The striker also made 101 appearances for Argentina – registering 41 goals and 19 assists – during a spectacular career.
