Sergio Aguero could miss the Manchester derby after he appears to elbow Winston Reid

How did the referee miss this?

Sergio Aguero could be forced to miss the Manchester derby if he receives a retrospective ban for elbowing Winston Reid in the face.

Manchester City sealed a 3-1 win over West Ham at the Etihad to go top of the Premier League table above rivals Manchester United.

And with domestic football now taking a break for next week’s internationals, City’s next match is the most hotly anticipated Manchester derby in years, on September 10.

But City’s major goal threat Aguero may miss the game after Sky Sports’ cameras spotted him appearing to elbow Reid in the face in a tussle 15 minutes before the end of the game.

Referee Andre Marriner apparently didn’t see the incident and took no action, but the Football Association could impose a retrospective punishment on the Argentina star.

BBC pundit Robbie Savage said: “City deserved it and were very good in the first half but the big talking point is whether Sergio Aguero will be punished retrospectively.

“The replays don’t look good. I think he’s going to be in trouble. Only Aguero knows if he’s elbowed Winston Reid. I can’t say he’s done it on purpose but on on the replays it looks like he swung his arm back and caught him in the throat.”

If he does get a ban he would miss the Manchester derby – the first time old rivals Pep Guardiola and United boss Jose Mourinho will face each other since joining their new clubs.
