Aguero could be set to swap The Etihad for Milan
After nearly a decade at the club, Sergio Aguero’s time as a Manchester City player could be drawing to a close.
The Argentine, currently sidelined with the knee injury picked up in June, is in the final year of his contract at The Etihad, and is able to open negotiations with other clubs in January should City not agree an extension to his current deal.
If Aguero opts to move on, there will likely be plenty of suitors. Although he’s always expressed a desire to return to Argentina and his first club, Independiente, a move to Italy, if reports are to be believed, is also an option.
Unsurprisingly, Antonio Conte, who has already put together an impressive portfolio of former Manchester-based footballers, is keen to add Aguero to his ranks at Inter Milan.
Despite the recent closure of one transfer window, Calcio Mercato claims Conte is already making plans for future arrivals, with Aguero ranked highly on his list.
Such a move could hinge on the future of Aguero’s countryman, Lautaro Martinez, who has been linked with a departure from Inter on numerous occasions over the last year. Should Barcelona be able to afford him – which, let’s face it, looks incredibly unlikely at this moment in time – Inter will turn their attentions to Aguero.
Interestingly, the same report also mentions that City’s interest in Erling Haaland would see them open to Aguero’s departure – a move that is certain to make Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even more miserable than he probably already is.
