The child was left with minor injuries
A seven-year old Hull City fan was struck in the face by a flare that was thrown into the crowd during the Tigers’ Championship clash against Barnsley on Saturday.
The child was left with injuries as a result of the incident, with a 17-year-old boy ‘presenting’ himself to the Humberside force on Saturday night.
Police initially stated that they thought the flare had been thrown by another Hull supporter.
“A 17-year-old boy has presented himself to Clough Road Police Station tonight and will now be questioned in connection with the incident,” a Humberside Police statement said.
The incident – which occurred just before the half-time break – left the child with minor injuries, the police also confirmed.

However, the seven-year-old was able to return to the stands to watch the remainder of the match after receiving treatment, with Grant McCann’s side securing a 2-0 win against Barnsley.
A first half strike from George Honeyman and a Keane Lewis-Potter goal in the second period marked a dominant performance from the away side.
The Tigers have made a disappointing start to the season, winning just three of their opening 17 Championship fixtures.
Similarly, Barnsley have won just two of their opening 17 matches and sacked head coach Markus Schopp after a run of one win in 15 league games earlier this week.
No other clubs in the second tier have scored fewer goals than Hull and the Tykes, having accumulated just 23 goals between them so far this season.
McCann’s men are next in action on 2o November when they host in-form Birmingham at the MKM Stadium, whereas Barnsley travel to second-placed Fulham on the same date – with a manager expected to be appointed during the international break.
