Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he feels that appointing David Moyes as his successor was the correct decision.
Speaking at an event to promote his new book, Leading, the former Manchester United manager claimed that it was “unfortunate” that things didn’t go to plan for Moyes.
“The process of hiring David Moyes was correct. At the time, the media applauded the decision – he was a young British manager, very consistent at Everton. He deserved his chance – unfortunately it didn’t work out for him,” he said.
Intriguingly, the Scot also revealed that he was offered the England job – on two occasions.
Rejecting the job was a decision that came easily.
“I never gave it a second thought – I’d never have been allowed back in Scotland,” he joked.
“The biggest problem with the England job is the press. They always make them [England] favourites. It gets the public into a right tizzy,” he added.
