For the first time since suffering a brain haemorrhage in early May, Sir Alex Ferguson has addressed the public with a video message posted on the Manchester United Twitter account.
In the video, he expresses his gratitude towards the medical staff who have taken care of him over the past two and a half months. He also promised to return to Old Trafford at some point during the upcoming season and wished José Mourinho and the squad good luck.
On Saturday 5 May, the football world was rocked by the news that Sir Alex Ferguson had undergone surgery for a brain haemorrhage.
Since then, the most successful manager in English football history has battled in a way only he knows how.

The whole of the footballing world let out a sigh of relief upon the news that the iconic manager has recovered from the life-threatening incident.
Ferguson said: “I want to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra hospitals.
“Believe me, without those people who gave me such great care I would not be sitting here today. Thank you from me and my family.
“The good wishes do resonate very strongly with me. Thank you for the support you have given me.
“I will be back later in the season to watch the team and, in the meantime, all the best to Jose Mourinho and the players.”
Sir Alex retired as United manager in May 2013 having won 38 trophies during 26 years at the helm of the club. His last public appearance was at Old Trafford in April when he presented Arsene Wenger with a commemorative trophy after her announced his retirement from Arsenal.
