Schmeichel was said to wear a corset beneath his shirt
Slavia Prague have issued an apology after a bizarre video took aim at Kasper Schmeichel, accusing the Leicester goalkeeper of being overweight.
Slavia play Leicester in the first round of the Europa League knockouts on Thursday and published a video about their English opposition to their social media channels earlier this week. The video explores Leicester’s history, and while it is complimentary to the Premier League club for the most part, it also features a few mildly critical comments about their home city and some of the players from Jiri Hosek, a Czech journalist and Deputy Editor-in-chief at Seznam Zprávy.
The strangest comments of all are reserved for Schmeichel, who Hosek suggests wears a corset beneath his shirt to conceal his weight troubles… that none of us were previously aware of.
“Occasionally he makes a blunder, but his overall performance has been extremely good. He’s the glue that holds the team together,” he said.
“He is a goalkeeper who has had problems with a healthy lifestyle. A manager who favours athleticism [like Slavia’s Jindřich Trpišovský] would probably want Schmeichel to lose 5 to 10 kilos,” he added.
“As far as I know, he must be the only player in the Premier League who, underneath his shirt, wears a corset.”

In response, Jaroslav Tvrdik, head of the board of directors for the Czech champions, has apologised for any comments which caused offence in the video.
“The games against Leicester will be a special occasion,” he tweeted. “We approach them with a great respect for the club and its players.
“We are sorry that some of the opinions put forward could have been interpreted as offensive. It was not our intention. We are looking forward to both games.”
