Southampton have sacked Mark Hughes
The saints only have one league win under their belt this season, a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in September. They threw away a two goal lead against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, drawing 2-2, which proved to be the final nail in Mark Hughes’ coffin.
Hughes was brought in last season to help Southampton avoid the drop and succeeded in doing so but has not managed to make any progress with the squad, who currently linger in 18th.
In a press release this morning, the club said:
“Southampton Football Club can today confirm it has parted company with First Team Manager Mark Hughes.
“Assistant First Team Manager Mark Bowen and Assistant First Team Coach Eddie Niedzwiecki have also left the club.
“We would like to express our thanks to Mark and his staff for all of their efforts during their time at St Mary’s.
“The search for a new manager to take the club forward is already under way.
“First Team Assistant Coach Kelvin Davis will lead the team for Wednesday’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.”
