This is up there with the worst miss of all time
You’re going to miss chances in football, it’s merely an occupational hazard. You’re going to score some and you’re going to miss some. It’s as simple as that.
Some misses however are worse than others. At this point, we all have images of Ronny Rosenthal’s miss against Liverpool in 1992 seared into our memories, right next to Fernando Torres’ howler against Manchester United in 2011.
Well, Messrs Rosenthal and Torres can now breathe a slight sigh of relief (slight, because their own misses are and will always be truly, truly awful) because the good people at Sparta Prague have pulled an ever better (worse) one out of the bag.
The miss in question took place 25 minutes into a friendly match between Sparta and Polish side Zagłębie Lubin, as the Czech side lined up a free-kick on the edge of the box.
The free-kick in question was a thing of near-beauty, looping over the wall and clattering the crossbar.
What followed though was an absolute mess as not one, but two Sparta players managed to hit the same post when it was easier to score, before the ball dropped to two further players who – together – knock it wide.
The miss, aside from being hilarious, also proved to be important, as Sparta went on to lose the game 2-1.
