The Twitter ‘feud’ nobody expected
Neil Warnock has responded to Djed Spence after the player poked fun at his former manager after gaining promotion to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The defender played under Warnock for Middlesbrough, but the veteran boss criticised Spence’s attitude in November after claiming that, despite having the talent to play in the Premier League, his dedication to the game ‘could see him playing non-league football in five years’ time’.
Warnock ‘welcomed’ to Twitter
Spence played the full 90 minutes in Forest’s 1-0 play-off final win over Huddersfield at Wembley, and the 21-year-old couldn’t help but aim a dig after Warnock after the match on social media.
“Oh, Where’s my Manners! Welcome to Twitter @warnockofficial,” Spence posted, alongside a picture of himself holding a cigar, with the play-off trophy by his feet.

Warnock responds to Spence
People were waiting to see if the former Boro boss would reply to the defender on Twitter, and Warnock – of course – delivered.
Quote-tweeting the original post, he wrote: “Well done Djed , I did say you were premier league or non league, glad you listened and took my advice on board now go and enjoy your success Those cigars won’t do you any good though son,” with a winking emoji.

Before departing Middlesbrough in November, Warnock approved Spence’s loan move to Forest last summer. Since arriving at the City Ground, the full-back has thrived and has made 50 appearances in all competitions – registering three goals and five assists.
He also made his England Under-21 debut in March in a 3-0 win against Albania.
Defender set for summer move away
Spence’s form in the Championship and in Forest’s impressive FA Cup campaign this season has led to reported interest form Tottenham Hotspur, with Antonio Conte’s side linked with a move for the defender in the summer.
While it remains unclear if the talented youngster will sign for Forest on a permanent basis, it is highly unlikely that he will return to the Riverside Stadium.
The full-back has made 70 appearances for Boro in his career, scoring two goals.
