Worrying news for City fans

A sports physio has given a worrying injury update on Rodri after the Manchester City star was forced off in the first half against Arsenal.

Rodri went down in the penalty area during a City corner in the first half of what was a feisty clash with the Gunners in the Premier League.

The midfielder looked to be in a considerable amount of pain and after a lengthy stoppage in play, he was helped from the field by the club’s medical staff.

After analysing video footage of the incident @physioscout said on X that they believe it’s ‘an ACL tear (+/- meniscus injury)’.

They said: “Via video analysis, we believe it’s an ACL tear (+/- meniscus injury), as right knee shifts into knee valgus, direction change and a slight tibia bone shift.

“Scans will be necessary to confirm the injury. Best case here is that it’s just a meniscus injury, but the injury did not look good. Hopefully, he avoids an ACL injury at all costs here.”

They gave the projected recovery time as nine months which would all but end Rodri’s season.

He is a key player in Pep Guardiola’s side having made 34 Premier League appearances last season and 36 the season prior, meaning it would be a big blow to City’s title defence.

Fans on X responded to the post with heartbroken emojis and prayers for the Spaniard.

The injury to Rodri comes after his comments in the week about elite footballers being ‘tired’ and close to ‘going on strike’ over fixture congestion.

Erling Haaland scored forced inside the opening ten minutes before Calafiori levelled with a wonder strike on his full debut.

Gabriel Magalhaes put the visitors ahead in first half injury time before Leandro Trossard was given his marching orders following a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

Substitute, John Stones rescued a point for the current champions in the eighth minute of second half injury time.

Manchester City are yet to comment on the severity of Rodri’s injury.
