For the first time ever, England’s most underwhelming midfield partnership will face each other as managers
Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard will come up against each other as managers for the first time this summer, as Rangers welcome Derby County to Ibrox for a pre-season friendly.

Having enjoyed glittering careers as midfield powerhouses for Liverpool and Chelsea respectively, Gerrard and Lampard made the step up to first team management at the start of last season. Gerrard led Rangers to a par finish of second place in the Scottish Premiership, while Lampard took Derby to the play-off final where – shock fucking horror – they lost.
The pair, who were the best of enemies on the pitch and a spectacularly underwhelming partnership for the English national team, will now sit in opposing dugouts for what should be an evenly matched pre-season friendly. That is, if Lampard doesn’t join Chelsea before this match takes place.
With Maurizio Sarri set to leave Chelsea to fill the vacancy at Juventus after the departure of Max Allegri, Lampard is expected to take the reins at Stamford Bridge.
Nothing can possibly go wrong when a club in need of a massive reboot hires a club legend based on very little managerial experience, right?????? cc: @ManUtd.
The friendly will take place on July 28 at 3pm.
Hopefully they will have learned that when one rushes forward into his technical area, the other must stay back.
