Stewards seen punching fans at Stuttgart vs Monchengladbach match

Stuttgart beat Gladbach 3-2 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena

VfB Stuttgart stewards were filmed punching Borussia Mönchengladbach supporters in the stands after a five-goal thriller in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Stuttgart secured an important 3-2 victory over Gladbach at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, thanks to goals from Wataru Endo, Chris Führich and Sasa Kalajdzic.

However, unsavoury scenes occurred after the full-time whistle as Stuttgart stewards were seen attacking visiting fans as they began to exit the stadium.

As reported by to Kicker, it was preceded by an argument between two supporters, which led to the intervention of security guards, who came to push Gladbach fans out of the visitors’ stand.

On Sunday, Stuttgart released a statement announcing that an investigation was underway, with a collection of images and testimonies set to take place.

It read: “On the sidelines of the match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, there were clashes in the guest block between fans as well as between fans and folders in which there were injuries on Saturday evening.

“VfB Stuttgart distances itself from the violence that can be seen in a video distributed on the net. As recently as Saturday evening, the collection of images and testimonies from both fans and security service employees began.

“Both clubs are in exchange, look at the material and will work through the processes together. We ask for your understanding that we will need some time to get the most complete picture possible.

“As soon as the reappraisal is completed, we will inform you about it.”

Borussia Mönchengladbach also released a statement following the incident(s), saying: “At the end of #VFBBMG there were arguments between stewards and fans in the guest block, resulting in injuries. The pictures we have so far do not speak for an appropriate action by the security service. 

There is beating, kicking, that is brute force and no de-escalating intervention. That needs to be worked out. Both clubs have been in exchange since yesterday, which @PP_Stuttgart investigating. We are waiting for a complete explanation from our colleagues in Stuttgart. ”
