Jack Butland has been getting rave reviews for his spectacular displays at Stoke City this season, but this fine gesture shows his feet have remained firmly on the ground.
The 22-year-old England international has donated £5,000 to the deaf women’s football team so that they can attend the World Cup in June.
“I’ve learnt a lot from major tournaments, experiences I’ll never forget,” said Butland on Twitter. “I’d love for you to experience the same!”
The entire cost of sending the team to the tournament is £20,000 and, after a campaign was launched to raise half that amount, Butland’s contribution saw them over the line.
Butland, capped three times by England and a certainty to make the Euro 2016 squad, also works as an ambassador for the Kick It Out anti-discrimination campaign.
