Chelsea had accepted a bid from Wolves for the on-loan striker
Striker Tammy Abraham has reportedly rejected a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in favour of staying on loan at Aston Villa and helping Dean Smith’s side gain promotion back to the Premier League.
The 21-year-old has been on loan at Villa Park since the beginning of the 2018/19 season and sits joint top of the league’s scoring charts with Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp on 16 goals.
His form this season had seen Premier League side Wolves make a bid to his parent side Chelsea to take him on loan for the remainder of the season, and it had been widely expected that Abraham would end up at Molineux.
However, on Tuesday afternoon it emerged that the England international, who has two England caps despite not making a senior start for Chelsea, had opted to stay and fight for promotion with Villa.
According to the Guardian, his loan contract with Villa gives Chelsea the option to recall him this month, but it would appear that the club have left the decision up to him.
Despite Abraham’s scoring feats, Smith’s side currently sit 13 points off league leaders Leeds United, but are just five points outside of the play-off places.
They have seen an upturn in fortunes since former Brentford boss Smith replaced Steve Bruce in October 2018.
