The date has been set for the first Mourinho-Guardiola derby

Not long to wait

Football fans won’t have long to wait to see Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola renew their rivalry.

The new Manchester United and Manchester City managers went head-to-head countless times when in charge of Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

And the pair will face off as Premier League managers for the first time just four games into the 2016/17 season.

United will welcome City to Old Trafford on the weekend of September 10, in a match which could take place on the same day that Champions Leicester City travel to Anfield for their first big away game of the campaign.

Both Manchester City and Leicester City will begin their Champions League group stage campaigns just days later, assuming City make it through qualifying.

The Champions League group stage draw takes place on August 25 in Monaco.

Real Madrid v Barcelona - La Liga

After the turn of the year, Guardiola’s team will take on their neighbours at the Etihad Stadium on the weekend of February 25.

That game will come less than a week after United’s Europa League last 32 second leg, assuming the club is still in the competition at that stage, while City could potentially be in Champions League last 16 action in the preceding days.
