What an amazing result.
France 0-0 Luxembourg.
Despite having 34 shots in total – 9 of those on target – 76% possession and a team of stars, France have only managed to secure a point after the minnows of Luxembourg held Les Blues to a draw at the Stadium Municipal.
After romping to a 4-0 win over the Netherlands in Paris in their last qualifier, Didier Deschamps’ men were in flying form as they looked to consolidate their lead at the top of Group A.
Heading into the game, France had beaten Luxembourg in every match that the countries have played since 1914. Well, Luxembourg’s 103-year wait for a point has now come to an end.
Deschamps picked a very strong stating XI with Griezmann, Mbappe, Giroud, Lemar, Pogba and Kante all featuring from the off. In fact, the line-up for the Euro 2016 runners-up came in at a valuation of £600 million.
During the match, Griezmann, Sidibe and Mbappe were guilty of missing good chances. Kingsley Coman and Alexandre Lacazette were introduced in the second-half and they also spurned good opportunities to break the deadlock.
Luxembourg could have even stolen the three points but Gerson Rodrigues’ header struck Hugo Lloris’ post on the 79th minute.
This being said, it’s clear what the result means to their players, coaching staff and fans.
Take a look at these scenes. Amazing.
