The nation reacts to Big Sam becoming the next England manager

In Big Sam we trust

Nooruddean Choudry

He’s finally getting his dream job.

Sky Sports, the Evening Standard, the Daily Mail and various other media outlets are all reporting the same “exclusive” – Sam Allardyce will be announced as the next England manager in a matter of hours.

The FA have undertaken a consultation process, asking such esteemed footballing luminaries as Harry Redknapp, Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard about who they should appoint to replace Roy Hodgson.

In the end a 3-man panel of David Gill, Martin Glenn and Dan Ashworth were left with a shortlist of two – Big Sam and also largely proportioned Steve Bruce. Now it seems Sunderland’s loss is the nation’s gain.

And how did the great people of Britain react to England’s new manager?

With respect? Warm wishes? Heartfelt congratulations? Of course not – they took the right royal piss. It’s what makes us great.

Here’s just some of the glorious responses to Big Sam’s big appointment…
