Manchester United had a very significant visitor to their training ground on Thursday afternoon.
Fans will have mixed feelings about him and his transfer shenanigans over the years. The names of Bebe and Falcao still haunt the nightmares of the Old Trafford faithful.
But images of Portuguese superagent Jorge Mendes arriving at the club’s Carrington training ground will be a sight for sore Mancunian eyes, because it points to a very notable signing.
Mendes of course represents David de Gea, and the Mail report that he was in Manchester to thrash out a new deal for his Spanish client.
Although De Gea was keen to sign for Real Madrid in the summer, he has always maintained he was perfectly happy at United. The signs are that he may now be around for some time.
Regardless of how the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial get on this term, securing De Gea’s future would surely be Louis van Gaal’s signing of the summer.
