The Valentino Rossi Special airs on BT this evening

The hour-long special will chronicle his incredible 25-year career

It still doesn’t quite feel real but it’s been three weeks since MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi officially retired after a glittering 25-year career that put the sport on the map and tonight, BT gives him a proper goodbye.

The Valentino Rossi special airs on BT Sport 2 at 17:15pm this evening. The hour-long documentary will take viewers right back to where it all started and show how the skinny 17-year-old went from a raw racing talent to a record-breaking winner and sporting icon.

The 42-year-old ended his career with a 10th place finish at the final Grand Prix in Valencia on November 14th, where he spent the majority of the raise cruising in the middle of the pack and mostly soaking up the incredible atmosphere as the stands were packed in his bright yellow colours.

While the nine-time world champion hadn’t won a title since 2009, longevity wasn’t the only thing he became recognised for as he still remained competitive for many years, finishing runner-up to a newly emerging Marc Marquez in 2015 and ’16, as well as fierce rival Jorge Lorenzo in 2015. You only have to watch this iconic lap from that final title win to see the level he was at.

Not only will the programme feature candid words with ‘The Doctor’ himself but it will also include interviews with rivals and peers such as Max Biaggi and Casey Stoner, as well as an insight into his VR46 sporting academy turned business empire and so much more.

If you ever wondered why Valentino Rossi is such a recognisable name not just in the world of motor racing but sport in general, this should make it all very clear. Make sure to catch it on BT Sport 2 this evening (Saturday, 4th December) at 17:15.
