There has been a huge surge in demand for Iceland kits…from Scotland

Of course there has

Matt Tate

They might have been the only home nation left out of the summer’s Euro 2016 action, but don’t expect that to stop Scottish football fans from jumping at any opportunity to mock England.

We already know that the Wales camp enjoyed watching the Three Lions’ crash out of the tournament on Monday night, as Iceland’s heroes managed to hold on to their 2-1 lead and progress to the quarter finals in their first ever major tournament

And there were inevitably celebrations north of the border, too, so much so that Iceland’s kit suppliers are struggling to cope with the increased demand for their merchandise from Scotland.

Fabrizio Taddei, export manager for Italian sportswear suppliers Errea, told the Times: “We are having huge demand and since Iceland beat England I has gone crazy. There have been thousands and thousands of orders from Scotland…but there is demand from all over Europe.”

Scots unable to get their hands on an Iceland shirt decided to get a bit more creative with their rival taunting. They wore plastic bags bearing the Iceland supermarket logo as they watched the game, not to be deterred by the 5p cost. Commitment to the ridicule.

We suspect England are going to be hearing about their Icelandic humbling for quite some time yet.
