Darren Bent has developed a reputation for being lethal in front of goal, but it turns out he’s lethal at both ends of the pitch.
The England international striker is currently plying his trade with Derby County in the Championship, but was on target at the wrong end when the Rams hosted Leicester City in the FA Cup.
Bent is by no means the only man to blame after what can only be described as a catalogue of errors, with goalkeeper Scott Carson not coming out of this well.
But the former Tottenham and Sunderland frontman – presented with an opportunity to clear his lines after a Leicester corner – let his poacher’s instincts take hold and absolutely leathered the ball into the Derby net.
Extraordinary own goal! It's a nightmare for Darren Bent as he gifts @LCFC the lead! 🙈 #EmiratesFACup https://t.co/MOyzhSKA9i

We should have known Bent would be among the goals, considering his previous record in the competition.
9 – Darren Bent has scored in nine of his last 10 FA Cup games (9 goals), including all four for Derby. Threat.

Just not like that.
Darren Bent: Has now found the back of the net in 5 of Derby’s last 6 FA Cup matches, this is his first goal for the opposition #DCFCvLCFC

Bent did redeem himself soon after, heading beyond Kasper Schmeichel to equalise, but we get the feeling one of the goals will be replayed a lot more than the other.
After all, the own goal was a special moment for everyone besides Bent.

Put Darren Bent near a goal and that's what happens.

Only thing that could have made that own goal better was if Bent had celebrated after scoring it.
