Thierry Henry has claimed that whenever Arsenal play a ‘big team’, they don’t just lose but instead they get ‘smashed’.
The Gunners currently find themselves in fifth position in the Premier League, having won seven, drawn two and lost four of their opening 13 matches.
Mikel Arteta’s side made a disappointing start to the season, losing their opening three fixtures against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, they were able to improve their performances and results and went 10 games unbeaten, before being beaten 4-0 away at Liverpool nearly two weeks ago.
Although the Gunners have the chance to leapfrog Manchester United into fourth position when they face-off against the Red Devils tonight (Thursday 2 December), three of their four loses so far this season have come against the current Premier League top three.
Arsenal legend Henry believes that although his former side have a good chance to achieve the ‘available’ fourth place at the end of the season, they struggle against the ‘big teams’.

Speaking to Amazon Prime prior to Thursday’s game at Old Trafford, the Frenchman said: “What I want to say is the fourth spot is available, I would like to see an Arsenal team that’s going to come here and make a statement against a strong Manchester United side.
“Are they heading in the right direction? Against a team that they’re suppose to beat, with a one-game-a-week situation, yes.
“When they are playing against a big team they’re not heading in the right direction because we usually get smashed.
“We don’t lose, we get smashed.”
The Gunners conceded a total of 11 goals in their matches against Chelsea, City and Liverpool – which has played a significant part in them having a negative goal difference.
