He spent just three months in charge
Thierry Henry has earned more than all but two football managers in the world this season, despite spending just three months at Monaco in his first managerial job.
According to a report published by France Football, Henry earned €25.5m as Monaco boss, with a large proportion of that coming in the form of his severance package after the club sacked Henry and rehired Leonardo Jardim.
Pep Guardiola, one of Henry’s managerial inspirations, earns €24m per season according to the report, putting him in fourth, one place below Henry.
Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde currently sits fifth in the managerial salary rankings, earning €23.5m.
Top of the table is Diego Simeone, who continues to be rewarded handsomely for his achievements at Atlético Madrid, earning a staggering €41m per season.
In second place is José Mourinho, another manager who appears to be have received a hefty severance package, with France Football reporting that he earned €31m this season despite his sacking in December. At least he’s finishing in the top four of something.

Henry may have left Monaco a very wealthy man, but his managerial reputation took a heavy hit during his stint in charge of the Ligue 1 club, after he left the club in 19th, winning just four out of 20 matches in charge, losing 11.
When he took the job, fans and pundits were rightly skeptical of how well it would go for the former Arsenal striker in his first ever managerial job. And their concerns were proven correct, as Henry could not lift the club where he started his career out of trouble.
It may be a while before he is given another job in management, but it’s not as if he’ll be struggling for cash in the meantime.
