Things haven’t been this bad for Man United in 17 years

Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat at home to Norwich was bad enough in its own right, but it also served to show how dire things have been of late.

Louis van Gaal’s team have now gone six games in all competitions without a win, forcing statisticians to look further and further back for a comparable run.

The latest stretch has seen United pick up draws against PSV Eindhoven, Leicester and West Ham, before losing to Wolfsburg, Bournemouth and Norwich.

You have to go all the way back to the 1998/99 season for the last time United went six without a win, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s team drawing with Aston Villa, Bayern Munich, Spurs and Chelsea in between defeats to Spurs (again) and Middlesbrough.

Those looking for positives might point out that United won the treble that season. But, well, you know…
