A few years back, the news that Manchester United would be without Wayne Rooney would have been a cause for concern for the club’s supporters.
But when it was revealed that the England captain would be out of action with an ankle injury for the weekend clash with West Ham, plenty of United fans were quick to express their relief that Rooney wouldn’t be featuring.
Rooney’s goal-scoring has not been as consistent as it has been in seasons gone by and one statistic now appears to support the claim that United might be better without him.
In the seven Premier League games that United have played without their captain under Louis van Gaal, they have yet to taste defeat.
