Pep Guardiola has welcomed another new signing to Manchester City.
On Monday it was confirmed that the City boss had agreed to part with a further £52m of Sheikh Mansour’s hard earned cash to bring AS Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy to the club.
The left-back becomes City’s second summer recruit from the Ligue 1 champions, having signed Bernardo Silva earlier in the window. He also becomes their third new full-back, after the signings of Kyle Walker from Tottenham and Real Madrid’s Danilo were also confirmed.
On top of that, he’s also brought in young Brazilians – Douglas Luiz from Vasco da Gama and his countryman, Ederson, from Benfica, who will become City’s new first choice goalkeeper.
Pep is certainly not messing around this transfer window. In fact, despite claims that Jose Mourinho is more of a ‘chequebook manager’, one tweet comparing the pair’s spending appears to show that since the City manager began his managerial career, he’s spent more in the transfer market than the Manchester United boss. It’s worth noting that this includes the one year sabbatical that Pep took between his jobs with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Although the totals of spending by the two managers only have the City boss narrowly ahead, it should also be pointed out that this was sent before Mendy’s move was confirmed. Even without Mendy, the table shows that Mourinho has spent nearly £7m a year less than Guardiola.

Although it might well be that United have more business to conclude in the market before the close of the transfer window, the figures still make for interesting reading.
