Marcus Rashford’s breakthrough at Manchester United has been nothing short of incredible.
Two games ago most football fans outside of the red half of Manchester probably didn’t even know his name.
But the 18-year-old striker introduced himself to the world with a brace in the Europa League before following it up with another impressive double on his Premier League debut to put a huge dent in title-chasing Arsenal’s season.
Now Rashford’s name is on everyone’s lips and his surprise emergence couldn’t have come at a better time for Louis van Gaal.
While United’s title aspirations are all-but dead and buried this season, they’re very much still in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
With the United injury list now standing at 13 first team players – including Wayne Rooney – his goals could prove invaluable for the run in.
But longer term, with the talismanic Rooney now turning 30, Rashford’s rise could give the Old Trafford faithful real optimism for the future with a new Manchester-born hero.
The youngster, who was top scorer in the U18s last season, is United through and through after following in the footsetps of Wes Brown, Danny Welbeck and Ravel Morrison from Fletcher Moss Junior football club.
This picture from Instagram of the young Rashford hugging the Premier League trophy with United’s Under 9s will surely have fans dreaming…
