The latest Manchester United transfer rumours are both exciting and bizarre

Two weeks until the January transfer window opens.

Considering the gap between Manchester City and Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table, many are predicting the latter to make some sort of a splash in the January transfer window.

It’s not clear if United boss Jose Mourinho is planning to make any significant signings during the winter window but, if City go ahead and sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, you would have to feel as though the red side of Manchester would have to respond accordingly.

Well, according to the latest transfer rumours, Mourinho is indeed keen on bolstering his squad next month. Duncan Castles in The Sunday Times writes that the Portuguese coach is keen to sign Bordeaux star Malcom.

Rather awkwardly, The Sunday Times has published Castles’ story with Malcom spelled ‘Malcolm’ but, dodgy spelling aside, Castles is renowned for being one of most well-connected journalists when it comes to covering Mourinho.

He is often derided on Twitter for his unwavering defence of the former Chelsea boss, through thick and thin, but many consider him to be one of the more reliable reporters when it comes to United transfers rumours. That’s not to say the Malcom story is definitely accurate – take it with a pinch of salt, as with every transfer rumour.

Malcom is one of the most exciting properties in French football. The Brazilian has scored seven times this season and, if you want a glimpse of what he is capable of, check out the clip below. He is only 20 but could potentially cost well in excess of €30million.

And now for something completely different. The Mirror are reporting that United want to re-sign Jonny Evans. The Northern Ireland international left Old Trafford in 2015 when Louis van Gaal sanctioned his departure but Mourinho, according to the report, thinks that was a mistake and wants to bring the 29-year-old back.

Manchester City were heavily linked with a move for the West Brom man in the summer, so it will be interesting to see how this one pans out. Mourinho may well be prioritising the signing of an experienced centre-half after revealing that Eric Bailly could be out for up to three months, as the Ivorian requires surgery on his ankle.
