Tommy Fury reveals he was ‘throwing up from the pain’ before cancelling Jake Paul fight

“I was throwing up from the pain, I was doubled over.”

Tommy Fury has claimed that he was ‘throwing up from the pain’ after a fractured rib and chest infection saw him pull out of his fight with Jake Paul.

The pair were scheduled to fight on December 18 in Tampa, Florida, but Fury released a statement earlier this week where he revealed that he had to cancel the bout through illness and injury.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul will now fight Tyron Woodley for a second time, having beaten the former UFC champion via decision in August.

In typical fashion, Paul lambasted the former Love Islander for ‘fumbling the bag’ by pulling out of their fight, labelling the Fury family as an ’embarrassment’.

However, Tommy has since insisted that he was ready to fight Paul, but had no option but to pull out after contracting a bacterial chest infection and suffering a broken rib.

He added that he was “throwing up from the pain” before stating that he is fully focused on getting a new fight date set and recovering from his set-back.

“Training camp couldn’t have gone any better for me for the first week, two weeks, but then I contracted a bacterial chest infection, which led to me going to the gym and just not being able to breathe,” Fury said.

“I was in my sparring sessions, pad work sessions, whatever it may be, just not being able to breathe and coughing up huge amounts of phlegm all the time.

“It led me to sleepless nights and that went on for about four weeks because I had the mindset of I’m going to keep training, I’m going to get through this, I’m going to have the fight no matter what.

“Four weeks passed and we decided to have a sparring session and I took a little clip to the body and because my body was so weak due to the virus inside of me … I instantly knew something wasn’t right.”

Tommy – brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury – also suggested that there was ‘no other fight’ that he wants when he recovers from his injury.

He added: “I was throwing up from the pain, I was doubled over, I literally got my bag and went straight to the hospital, straight for an MRI scan, and I got the results back the same day and the results uncovered that I had a clean break in my rib and I had multiple fractures.

“All my focus is on right now is getting a new fight date set and recovering.

“That’s all I can do right now, I can’t do anything else apart from get my body right as quickly as possible and look for a new fight date with Jake Paul.

“There’s no other fight that I want out there, that’s the fight that I want next.

“Like I said, I’m just going to recover now and hopefully we can work out a new date for next year.”

Paul has also goaded Tyson following the news that Tommy pulled out of the fight, sending him a voice-recorded private message to let him know what he thought of his brother.
