Tottenham fan ‘left Johan Cruyff ArenA at half-time’

Tottenham are Champions League finalists

It was almost certainly the biggest night in the history of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

For the first time ever, the club reached the Champions League final – seeing off Ajax in dramatic circumstances in Amsterdam on Wednesday night.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Spurs appeared all but out by half-time at the Johan Cruyff ArenA, goals from Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech putting Ajax 3-0 up on aggregate and seemingly out of sight.

This, however, was not the case.

Two quick-fire goals from Lucas Moura brought Spurs back into contention inside an hour. Then, with virtually the last kick of the game, the Brazilian completed his hat-trick to send Mauricio Pochettino’s men through to the Madrid final on away goals.

Even when considering all that has happened in the competition this season (and this week), it was one of the most miraculous comebacks in Champions League history.

Spare a thought, then, for any Spurs fans that might have opted to leave the stadium at half-time…

According to numerous tweets on Thursday, one of the club’s supporters did decide he’d had enough after the first half. Having left the ground, pictures posted to his Instagram Stories appear to show him waving goodbye, seemingly having completely given up on his team’s chances of reaching the final.

Spurs will now contest their first ever Champions League final at the start of next month when they take on Liverpool, who themselves managed to reach Madrid with a memorable fightback 24 hours earlier.
