Let’s Turk business
It’s been on the cards for a while, but it looks like Robin van Persie could be given the heave-ho by Manchester United.
The Observer report that Fenerbahce have agreed a deal in principle with the 31-year-old over a move to Turkey.
The best part is the Dutchman still wants United to pay out the final year of his contract (worth an astronomical £12m) despite Fenerbahce stumping up the cash to match his £250,000-a-week salary, say the Mirror.
What’s that they say about money for old rope?
Better the devils you know?
Once upon a time, if Manchester United came in for you, there was only one place you were going (unless you’re Alan Shearer, of course).
But the transfers haven’t exactly been piling through the Old Trafford doors so far this summer, and it seems two of their targets have reservations about joining, according to the Times.
The paper report that Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin both have their doubts about moving to United.
French international Schneiderlin is said to prefer a move to Arsenal, but the Observer say United are preparing to up their £20m bid for the star.
Tyne waits for no man
Newcastle are determined to wrap up a deal for £15m-rated QPR striker Charlie Austin and are ready to up their bid this week to land the 26-year-old.
The Express say Steve McClaren is hoping his brief spell as R’s coach will help clinch the move.
But The Sun say another of Austin’s past masters is in the market for the former Burnley frontman. Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, who brought the ex-builder to Turf Moor in 2011, wants him back and he’s willing to bid £14m.
