We’re not quite at the stage where #MourinhoOut starts trending on Twitter, but it’s fair to say the last few days haven’t been great from a Manchester United perspective.
Despite starting the season brightly, United’s loss at Vicarage Road on Sunday afternoon was their third on the spin, coming at the end of an eight day period that had already seen the side suffer defeats to Manchester City and Feyenoord.
While United fans aren’t quite ready to start turning on their new manager just yet, it seems their patience with Wayne Rooney is running out.
The United captain, playing as part of a midfield three, performed poorly in the 3-1 defeat to Watford, drawing plenty of criticism from the club’s supporters in the process. While many of the club’s fans believe it’s high time that Rooney was withdrawn from the United starting XI for a run of games, few pundits appear to agree.
Another example of this came on Sunday evening’s Match of the Day 2, where Trevor Sinclair was asked by host Mark Chapman if it was time for Mourinho to drop Rooney.
Sinclair suggested that instead of dropping him, the former Chelsea boss should simply play Rooney as a holding midfielder…
The question that divides opinion and the talking point that won't go away… #MOTD2 https://t.co/mycjdWJsMS

As you’d probably expect, Sinclair’s advice came as a surprise to many…
Did Trevor Sinclair just say that Rooney's best position now is as a holding midfielder?!?!?!

Trevor Sinclair: "Rooney's a holding midfielder now". Lay off the drugs pal, lay off the drugs. #MOTD2

Even when Mark Chapman tries to question Rooney on MOTD, Danny Murphy & Trevor Sinclair jump to his rescue, laughable punditry

Trevor Sinclair just called Rooney "a holding midfielder now" on MOTD2. What an extraordinary show it is.

Perhaps this is what Sinclair had in mind?
You laugh now at Trevor Sinclair suggesting Rooney should play defensive midfield but in two years time he'll be there for Seattle Sounders.
