After his struggles with Manchester United this season, Wayne Rooney has not been the world’s most popular footballer.
With that in mind, some of the reactions to the announcement that has been voted England’s Player of the Year for 2015 shouldn’t surprise us.
Here’s a quick look at how Twitter reacted to the news of Rooney’s latest award:
Some found it hilarious…

Whereas others were simply in disbelief…
I really can't believe Rooney was the best English player of the last year.

Massive obsession with Rooney in this country. He's bang average. Why do we punish ourselves with hype!

Even some of his supporters found it difficult to justify…
I'm a fan of Rooney…but how the hell is he the England player of the year for 2015!? HOW!??

There were plenty who believed the accolade should have gone to others…
Wayne Rooney won Englands player of the year for 2015. Seriously? Surely Harry Kane deserved it…

But in a year when he overtook Sir Bobby Charlton’s all time goalscoring record, some clearly believe that Rooney is still the best option for his country.
