Louis van Gaal has called up two uncapped teenagers ahead of United’s weekend league meeting with Watford.
The United boss revealed, earlier today, that he would be without the services of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia for Saturday’s game at Vicarage Road.
Aiming to keep up the pace at the top of the league, Van Gaal could give 19-year-old James Wilson a start up front or call on the likes of Juan Mata or Memphis Depay.
The Dutchman is not solely relying on his senior stars, however.
Van Gaal has now called 18-year-old forward Marcus Rashford and 19-year-old midfielder Sean Goss [pictured below] into his travelling squad.
Rashford has scored six goals in 11 games for United’s Under 18 side this season. The Manchester native has also scored three times in the Uefa Youth League.
Earlier this season, U19 coach Nicky Butt, who has worked closely with Rashford said:
“Marcus is explosive, he’s a very talented boy but a good, hard worker as well. He’s a good lad to have in the side because he puts a shift in for the team. He’s explosive and he scores goals.”
Ashley Fletcher, who was also linked with a call-up, has been placed on stand-by should anything befall members of the current squad.
Goss has experience of training and playing with the senior United squad having been included on the team’s pre-season tour of the States.
