Good lord what an awful human being
We should all be aware of the fact that Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, is quite possibly one of the least congenial people in the world.
She has been accused of bullying by her own civil servants, so much so that the very person heading the inquiry investigating her bullying quit because our prime minister backed her over the findings that she did, in fact, break the code of governing minister’s behaviour.
In layman’s terms, she is an irredeemable arsehole.
But like all of her ilk, Priti Patel cares little for facts or history, and as such she sought to do what all Tories do and attach herself to a popular movement: today that meant criticising the racists who sent vile abuse to a number of England footballers following their defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final last night.
The same Priti Patel, let’s remember, who said fans have a right to boo players for making a peaceful protest in support of oppressed minorities.
The same Priti Patel, let’s remember, who is the Home Secretary of this country.
Here’s what she said: “I am disgusted (editor’s note: lol) that England players who have given so much for our country this summer have been subject to vile racist abuse on social media. It has no place in our country and I back the police to hold those responsible accountable.”
Here’s a refresher of what she said when racists booed the same players taking the knee. Long story short, she called the knee – a gesture not instigated by a Marxist group in Hackney but rather Martin Luther King Junior – ‘gesture politics’.
Most right-minded people found what she said absurd, none more so than England international defender Tyrone Mings, who clearly has a longer memory than Patel would hope, as he called her out for her – even by Tory standards – woefully cynical cake-eating attempts.
He said: “You don’t get to stoke the fire at the beginning of the tournament by labelling our anti-racism message as ‘Gesture Politics’ & then pretend to be disgusted when the very thing we’re campaigning against, happens.”

Great words by Tyrone Mings. If only we had an opposition leader willing to do the same.
