Tyson Fury leads press conference rendition of ‘American Pie’

'Oh yeah, life goes on'

‘Oh yeah, life goes on’

Tyson Fury, Britain’s best heavyweight boxer, is a character.

In the last two years Fury has been to the brink of suicide, ballooned to more than 400 pounds and saw off alcohol and drug addiction. He has visited hell.

On Saturday night Fury drew on that experience twice. First, when a Deontay Wilder one-two crushed him into the canvas, seemingly well into the shadow realm, but from lying flat Fury stood back up with little more than a shrug.

Second, at the post-fight press conference, where one might have expected the ‘Gypsy King’ to be incandescent, furious at the draw. But he wasn’t. In fact, he was jubilant.

The 30-year-old heavyweight, who remains undefeated, led the press conference in singing Don Mclean’s vintage club banger ‘American Pie.’

Fury stood up and sang. He encouraged Ben Davison and Frank Warren to do the same. Then the assembled reporters joined in. Clapping and yeehawing.

Fury said: “I’m being a total professional here. I went to Germany to fight Klitschko and I went to America to fight Deontay Wilder. God bless America.  The ‘Gypsy King’ has returned.

“We are two great champions.  Me and this man are the two best heavyweights on the planet.

“Both men are going home to their families.

“Life continues. It is what it is.”

When they were done singing, Fury dropped his mic and the press conference ended.
