Unvaccinated Bayern Munich trio hit by new covid rules in Bavaria

Kimmich, Gnabry and Musiala are all unvaccinated

Bayern Munich trio Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala are having to be separated from the rest of the squad as Bavaria tightens it restrictions due to an increase in Covid-19 cases.

As a result of the three players being unvaccinated, they have been banned from staying in the same hotel as their team-mates before a match, meaning they must travel to games separately, according to Kicker.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side face an away tie against Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Friday night, with the new sanctions meaning that the reigning German champions have had to change their plans accordingly.

However, when Bayern travel to Ukraine to face Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League on Tuesday night, Kimmich, Gnabry and Musiala will be allowed to stay in the same hotel as their team-mates and staff.

While it might be frustrating for both the trio and Munich, there is no alternative as Bavaria looks to counter the surge of coronavirus.

The German southern state has seen an increase in Covid infections recently, meaning there is increasing pressure on intensive care units – which are approaching 600 per 100,000.

On Tuesday (16 November), the number of Covid infections registered in the state reached 554.2 per 100,000 people within seven days – significantly higher than the nationwide seven-day incidence of 312.4.

This has meant that the hospital traffic light warning system has been moved to red – its highest possible level, as per The Local.

Markus Soder – Minister President of Bavaria – has stated that there was ‘no choice’ but to enforce a ‘a kind of lockdown for the unvaccinated’, which was implemented to help with the increasing pressure on hospitals and medical staff.

One of the measures sees unvaccinated people banned from visiting hotels and restaurants. As a result of this, Bayern’s unvaccinated trio Kimmich, Gnabry and Musiala are directly impacted by the newly-imposed restrictions.
