Unwanted by Manchester United, Javier Hernandez is on a piping hot streak

Determined to succeed

‘Little Pea’ is wracking them up in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Manchester United have failed to find the net in four of their last six matches and only recently ended a 404-minute goal drought.

Wayne Rooney is United’s leading scorer but he has been pilloried for most of the season after a host of underwhelming performances.

The club’s only two other strikers are Anthony Martial, who has often been deployed on the left wing, and James Wilson, who has only seen 45 minutes in the League Cup so far.

It makes the August decision to cut Javier Hernandez loose all the stranger. The Mexican was never really given a fair crack of the whip by Louis van Gaal after being loaned out to Real Madrid last season before being sold to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

After a reasonable enough start to life in Germany, ‘Chicharito’ is flying. He has scored seven goals in his last five matches, including one at the Stadio Olimpico in his side’s 3-2 defeat to Roma.

While Hernandez used to be United’s go-to guy on the bench, Van Gaal has found a new super sub.
