The USWNT keep breaking records
Before this summer’s World Cup, many had hoped the tournament would propel women’s football to the next level in terms of popularity and interest. It’s difficult to predict whether the current interest will last, but for now, it has done exactly that.
The likes of Megan Rapinoe, Lucy Bronze and Wendie Renard have become household names. And the possibility of England winning a World Cup has of course helped to sustain the hype that preceded the tournament.
But England’s opponents on Tuesday, the United States, have taken it to another level. Senior Director at Nike, Heidi Burgett, has revealed that the United States Women’s National Team jersey for this summer’s World Cup is now the best sold Nike football jersey of all time over the course of one season on the official Nike website.

The USWNT are the World Cup’s current holders and look likely to retain the trophy this summer, led by veteran winger and LGBT icon Megan Rapinoe, who has managed to perfect the art of playing elite football and winding up Donald Trump simultaneously.
The 33-year-old does not sing the American national anthem before matches and even took a knee in support of Colin Kaepernick in a match between her domestic team and Seattle Reign and Chicago Red Stars.
She has continued to snub the anthem in this summer’s World Cup, saying back in 2016: “Being a gay American, I know what it means to look at the flag and not have it protect all of your liberties.”
Women’s soccer player, @mPinoe, just stated that she is “not going to the F…ing White House if we win.” Other than the NBA, which now refuses to call owners, owners (please explain that I just got Criminal Justice Reform passed, Black unemployment is at the lowest level…

(He thinks she’s black, doesn’t he? He’s never once watched them play, has he?)
It’s no surprise that the USWNT’s jersey is breaking all time sales records when the team features heroes like Rapinoe. Her next challenge? Getting past Lucy Bronze on Tuesday night. Millions will be watching, Trump probably not one of them.
