Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw by Chelsea at Old Trafford, but delivered a somewhat improved performance for their beleaguered boss Louis van Gaal.
There was talk before the game that the Dutchman may hand in his resignation following a disastrous run of results, but the team certainly looked like they were still playing for the manager.
The hosts made a bright start which had supporters off their seats…
Blimey! Fast paced, aggressive football sustained for 20 minutes now. Says a lot that I'm almost shocked by this!

And there was none of the fear they exhibited at Stoke
Not much sign of the fear that Van Gaal said he was incapable of removing from his team. Pace and energy in #mufc. 25 mins 0-0 #cfc

Even Wayne Rooney was playing well!

Chelsea’s so bad that Rooney’s looking good.

United came out of the traps quicker in the second half, and Ander Herrera brought a brilliant save out of Thibaut Courtois…
56' – Incredible! Courtois makes a point-blank save to stop Herrera giving United the lead from Martial's cross. #mufc

These 2 sides may be ordinary, but these 2 keepers are extraordinary!

Before Nemanja Matic missed Chelsea’s best chance when through on goal…

Matic that was worse than anything I've seen Soldado do in his Tottenham career

In the end it finished 0-0, with everyone now wondering what the future holds for Van Gaal
We were the better side by a long stretch and still couldn't score. General performance much better but 2 shots on target is woeful.

Only the first 25 minutes when #mufc showed a threat tonight. One goal in their last four home matches FT 0-0
